What’s going on at Headquarters?

Inspired by the world of Inside Out, we'll use familiar ideas like emotions, memories, beliefs, and our own internal “Headquarters” as a fun starting point for understanding what's happening inside our minds — and how that affects what happens outside of them.

Each week explores a new topic built around the five core areas of social-emotional learning: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

And Headquarters isn't just about understanding yourself. It's about understanding each other, too. By talking, sharing, and experiencing things together, students get to discover where we're different, where we're surprisingly alike, and how much we can learn from seeing something through someone else's eyes. It's a chance to build connection, practice empathy, and develop social and emotional skills.

This isn't a class where you sit and listen to someone tell you how you're supposed to feel.

We'll talk. We'll laugh. We'll play games, try challenges, watch movie clips, work through real-life situations, and figure some things out together.

Welcome to the sewing class that never ends… where we learn a skill and we make new friends.

Every sewist begins in the same place: Intro to Sewing. You'll work through our self-paced, interactive lessons and hands-on challenges so everyone learns the same foundational skills, studio routines, and safe use of our equipment. Already know your way around a needle or sewing machine? Great! You'll probably move through Intro pretty quickly. Brand new? Take your time. I'll be there to teach, help, troubleshoot, and cheer you on along the way.

Successful completion of Intro to Sewing leaves you Sewing Ready — and unlocks the rest of the Sewing Studio fun.

Come in, grab the featured project, choose something else from our project collection, finish something you've already started, or see what you can dream up from the scrap bin.

At A Place at the Table, we'll gather each week for a new hands-on food experience—measuring, mixing, chopping, assembling, creating, planning, and learning practical kitchen skills along the way.

But what we prepare is only part of what happens around the table.

We'll talk. Laugh. Work together. Try things we haven't tried before. Learn from each other. Make mistakes. Solve problems. And build the kind of connections that happen when people gather around something they can do together.

No experience needed. No beginning or end. Just something new to prepare, something new to learn, and a place for you at the table.

Funny how life eventually expects you to know how to do all of this...but when exactly were you supposed to learn it?

How do you make an appointment? Fill out a medical form? Address an envelope? Create a budget? Do laundry without ruining your favorite shirt? Count back change? Read a map when your phone dies? Understand a car loan? Sign your name?

Let's look at these things now — for future reference.

Each week, we'll tackle a different real-life skill through hands-on challenges, practice, conversation, and plenty of figuring-it-out-together. We'll explore money, communication, home skills, organization, transportation, paperwork, decision-making, and all kinds of other things you're somehow just expected to know.

There's no beginning and no end. Each week is something completely different, so jump in anytime.

And because this is a Lohayo Hangout, learning is only part of it. We'll talk, laugh, help each other, share what we already know, and probably discover a few things we thought we knew.

Nobody knows all of it. Everybody knows something. Let's figure out the rest together.

Ready for whatever we throw at you?

Each week at Challenge Accepted! brings a new mix of games, Minute-to-Win-It challenges, brain teasers, team competitions, puzzles, and sometimes completely ridiculous tasks that have one main purpose: have fun together.

Some challenges will make you think. Some will take teamwork. Some will test your speed, creativity, memory, or ability to keep a straight face. And some might just involve stacking cups or moving something across the room in the most unnecessarily difficult way possible.

And while everyone is busy trying to beat the clock, solve the puzzle, or help their team win, they're practicing some pretty important real-world skills without even realizing it: communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, critical thinking, time management, flexibility, perseverance, sportsmanship, and learning how to win—and lose—with other people.

There’s nothing to master and no experience needed. Come when you can, jump on a team, meet some people, laugh a lot, and Accept the Challenge.

Because sometimes the best social-learning spaces are the ones where nobody is trying very hard to make socializing happen. We're just having fun—and connection happens along the way.
